Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer, and politician. He was born on April 14, 1891, in the town of Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, India. Ambedkar came from a family belonging to the Mahar caste, which was considered an "untouchable" or "Dalit" community in Indian society.
Despite facing discrimination and social exclusion, Ambedkar received an education and went on to earn multiple degrees, including a law degree from the University of London. He was the first Indian to receive a Doctorate in Economics from the University of Columbia in 1927.
Ambedkar devoted his life to the cause of social justice and the upliftment of the Dalit community. He was a prolific writer and authored several books, including "The Annihilation of Caste" and "The Buddha and his Dhamma". Ambedkar was a staunch advocate of social and political equality and worked towards the abolition of the caste system in India.
In 1947, Ambedkar was appointed as the chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution, where he played a significant role in drafting the Constitution of India. He fought for the inclusion of provisions that guaranteed fundamental rights and safeguards for the marginalized sections of Indian society.
